KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has reportedly been removed from both his posts as Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief and Perak PN chairman.

Speaking to Scoop, a party source said the decision was made by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at a coalition meeting in February.

“The president had stated in the meeting that Faizal would be replaced by Radzi (Datuk Seri Radzi Jidin) as PN information chief.

“There hasn’t been an official announcement or letter of appointment since then.

“As for the Perak chairmanship, it’s expected to be taken over by Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin. Bersatu and PAS division leaders in Perak also want Hamzah to replace Faizal,” the source said.

When asked about the reason for Faizal’s removal, the source said many were dissatisfied with his performance.

“One of the key reasons was his underwhelming performance – he simply didn’t deliver.

“Now he’s trying to hold on, relying on leaders who were appointed rather than elected within the party as his lifeline.

“He’s still Bersatu Perak chairman, but only because the president is giving him some leeway,” the source said.

Asked when the official announcement would be made, the source said it would likely happen after the next PN meeting.

“We’re waiting for the next PN meeting, which is usually held every two months. But the chairman is currently in Australia, so things have been moving slowly,” the source added.

Speculation over Faizal’s position as PN information chief arose recently when Bersatu vice-president Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin was reported to have chaired a meeting of the coalition’s Department of Information and Communications.

This was revealed by PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari in a Facebook post, which noted that Radzi chaired the meeting with the title “PN information chief” clearly displayed.

Ahmad Faizal previously also held the posts of Bersatu and PN chairman for Negeri Sembilan, but was replaced by Labu assemblyman Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker in January 2024. – May 18, 2025
