Fake goods seizures down 26.9% in 2025

THE amount of fake goods seized in the country fell by 26.9 percent to P29.97 billion in 2025 from P40.99 billion a year earlier, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines said.

The Bureau of Customs accounted for the bulk at P26.38 billion, followed by the National Bureau of Investigation at P3.23 billion, Philippine National Police at P563.12 million and Philippine Food and Drug Administration at P5.76 million.

The largest number of counterfeit goods were handbags and wallets worth P2.13 billion, apparel and accessories at P644.10 million, footwear at P313.14 million and cigarettes at P144.94 billion.

Under Section 155 of the IP Code, the use, reproduction or imitation of a registered trademark or its dominant feature without the owner’s consent — whether in commerce or advertising — can be held liable for infringement if such is likely to cause confusion, mistake or deception.
