THE Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has firmly rejected a fabricated claim circulating on social media alleging that its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, had encouraged civil servants to grow cannabis at home.
In a statement, the ministry described the viral content as a malicious fabrication and digital manipulation designed to mislead the public.
Accordingly, an official report has been lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for investigation and further action against the parties involved.
“The public is advised not to spread false content and to always refer to official channels to obtain accurate information,” it said.

The clarification comes after a manipulated post on social media claimed that Mohamad had suggested civil servants begin cultivating cannabis at home in response to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The post was later edited to indicate that it was false.
It is noted that in March, Mohamad had previously encouraged civil servants with land to grow vegetables as part of efforts to strengthen domestic food supply resilience should regional conflicts in West Asia persist. - April 14, 2026
