TAWAU: A Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) staff member was killed in a suspected hit-and-run at Km45 Jalan Tawau-Kunak at about 12.30pm on Friday.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, in a Facebook post, identified the deceased as Muin Ukas, a Fama Tawau staff member who was on duty when the incident occurred.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the late Muin Ukas, a Fama Tawau staff member who died in a road accident while carrying out his duties,” he said.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh, in a separate statement Saturday, said police were working to identify the vehicle and its registration number after the driver was believed to have left the scene following the collision.
He said preliminary investigations found the pedestrian was crossing the road when struck by a vehicle believed to be white and travelling from Kunak towards Tawau, with the case investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
