A fatal incident took place when Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers came across three suspicious individuals in Melaka, resulting in the suspects being shot dead at an oil palm plantation on 24 November.

As previously reported, Melaka Police Chief DCP Dato’ Dzulkhairi Bin Mukhtar said in a statement that when the police operation team identified themselves, the suspects became aggressive, with one officer injured on his left arm, allegedly after being struck with a machete.

The families of the three suspects have lodged a police report

In a recent update, Criminal Investigation Department Director CP Datuk M. Kumar A/L S. Muthuvelu confirmed that police reports have been filed by the families of the three suspects, who were unhappy with how the police handled the incident.

“The Criminal Investigation Department is taking this matter seriously and assures that the investigation will be conducted transparently, fairly, and professionally, in accordance with the law to ensure justice is served,” the statement read.

He added that a special team has been set up at the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department to take over the entire investigation, including looking into the police reports filed by the suspects’ families.

“The public is advised not to speculate or spread misinformation that could affect or compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department hotline at 019-376 4763,” he said.

“I believe this was simply a ‘fabrication’ by the police”

Meanwhile, a local media outlet reported that the victims’ families claimed that the police officers who shot and killed the three men should be charged with murder.

Their lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, has since dismissed the police’s account, which alleged that the three men attacked the officers with machetes, leaving one of them seriously injured.

He further urged that the police officers be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“Referring to the forensic audio analyst’s report, which found no such incident recorded when the car was stopped, I believe this was simply a ‘fabrication’ by the police.

“The audio is clear, and the evidence is clear. All three individuals were in police custody for more than ten minutes before they were shot and killed,” he added.
