
In Mentakab, Temerloh, a man accused of assaulting his mother and niece using a broom and a helmet has been apprehended by the police. The 52-year-old suspect was arrested near his residence after fleeing the scene on a motorcycle yesterday. The unemployed suspect allegedly attacked his niece and mother when they, along with an Indonesian woman, visited the house to clean it.
The police identified injuries sustained by the suspect's mother, aged 77, on her face, while the 31-year-old niece suffered injuries to her right hand, shoulder, and the back of her head. The suspect had been living in the house after his mother relocated to his brother's nearby residence. The incident took place at 4:30 pm, and the suspect was arrested the following morning.
Temerloh District police chief ACP Mazlan Hassan provided details of the incident, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code. This section carries a punishment of imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine, caning, or a combination of any two upon conviction.
The motive behind the assault remains under investigation. Initial findings suggest that the suspect's living arrangement and the presence of others at the house might have contributed to the altercation. The victims were reportedly at the house to perform cleaning duties when the assault occurred.
