WHAT was meant to be a family holiday from Pahang to Melaka ended in tragedy on Sunday night when a six-year-old boy is believed to have drowned in a hot spring pool.
The incident occurred at about 7.40pm when the child was found unconscious and floating in an adult pool by members of the public.
The matter was reported to the Community Partner Team, known as Parakom, which arrived at the scene shortly after.
Upon reaching the location, the team moved the boy to a safe area and immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation while contacting the MERS999 emergency hotline.
An ambulance from Alor Gajah Hospital arrived with medical personnel and transported the child to hospital for further treatment. He was pronounced dead at 8.24pm.
Initial information indicated that the boy had been under the supervision of his aunt and older sister at the time of the incident.
However, he is believed to have wandered into the adult pool without the knowledge of other family members before being discovered by members of the public.
The body was later sent to the Forensic Unit at Alor Gajah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar confirmed the incident when contacted.
He said further investigations would be carried out by the D11 Unit, which handles sexual offences, women and children cases, at the Melaka police contingent headquarters. - February 2, 2026
