A recent video that went viral on TikTok has sparked frustration from a visitor at Pantai Purnama, who was upset over another person’s selfish behaviour.
The video showed a man reserving a parking spot by placing a chair in the lot and sitting on it, which sparked outrage among visitors, especially since parking in the area is already so limited, as reported by Sinar Harian
“I went around three times looking for parking”
In the 19-second video, the TikTok user shared that the incident happened on Sunday (May 11) at around 6.44pm.
He shared that while he was waiting for a parking spot, a family stopped him, saying their car was parked far away and they needed the spot to make it easier to load their things.
“I was circling the area three times looking for parking when I finally saw a car leaving. But just as I was about to enter the spot, a family stopped me, claiming their car was parked far away and they needed the spot to make it easier to load their things,” he explained.
“I’ve asked Municipal Council to take action”
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan’s State Exco for Local Government Development, Housing and Transport, J Arul Kumar, said he has directed the Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) to look into the incident.
“Blocking parking spots like this isn’t allowed, and I’ve asked MPPD to take action. No one has the right to reserve public parking,” he said.
For context, reserving parking spots using items like chairs, rocks, or flower pots is an offence under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
First-time offenders can be fined up to RM2,000 or face up to six months in jail. For repeat offences, the penalty increases to a fine of up to RM4,000 or a jail term of up to 12 months.
