My world came crumbling down when I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2019. It was akin to a convict facing the death sentence, albeit not committing any crime, in my case. Nevertheless, I had come to terms with my condition and accepted is a a gift from His Almighty. After the diagnosis and orchiectomy, I went on a witch-hunt, seeking a reputable oncologist to commence treatment and started full blast chemotherapy a year later and that was the most trying times of my life. Fear engulfed me, pertinent questions arised whether I'll make it or not as I know many fighters didn't make it, losing my loved ones and not being there anymore to see and experience the future with my family. In brief, life being cut short is the most cruel blow when you're still alive to ask those questions! The horror of waiting for my cancer results after every chemotherapy session, scans and blood tests was painly excruciating.
But God definitely had other plans for me! There is a very popular column in Reader's Digest, 'Laughter is the best Medicine' and while I totally agree with the quote, I strongly believe when in dire adversity, my family is the best medicine for me. While undergoing cancer treatment, my family was the second force that permeated deeply into every single cell, veins and vessels that worked hand in hand to keep the deadly cells at bay. Their unwavering support was the pillar that boosted my faith, strength and will to face the entire arduous cancer journey to date smoothly My beloved mother's powerful prayers, my dearest wife's steadfast love, my fillial sons' dutiful company during hospital appointments coupled with my siblings' timely filling in the void when my wife and sons couldn't accompany me for chemotherapy sessions was the perfect recipe that was instrumental in my road to recovery.
Today, I'm back to work when cancer threatened me an early retirement, I'm back to my daily routine when cancer threatened me the confinement of a deathbed, I'm challenging myself to new territories when cancer threatened me the solitude of a deep abyss and most importantly I'm back with my family when cancer threatened me with the untimely goodbye to them. God definitely works in wondrous way and gifting me my family was the best gift bestowed to me.
