Family left homeless in Kota Belud fire

KOTA BELUD: A family of four was left with nothing after their house was destroyed in a fire in Kg Timbang Lasau Podi, here, Thursday.

The incident occurred at 6.45pm and luckily no one was hurt.

Kota Belud District Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Muhammad Syazwan Latun said upon receiving an emergency call at 6.52pm, 10 firemen rushed to the scene with a machine and utility vehicle of the Emergency Service Assistance Unit (EMRS).

“Upon arrival, we found a non-permanent house 70 per cent destroyed by the fire.

“Also destroyed in the incident was a Modenas motorcycle. The fire spread quickly but the occupants managed to get out on time.

According to Muhammad Syazwan, the operation ended at 8.30pm while the cause of the incident and the estimated loss are still under investigation.

Meanwhile, in RANAU, a family here lost their belongings, including a car, after their home was destroyed in a fire, Thursday night.

Head of BBP Ranau Station, PPgB Ridwan Bin Mohd Taib said the incident happened at Kg Merungin Melinsau Ranau at about 11.30pm.

“A call was received through the MERS999 line at 11.43pm and eight firemen led by the Operations Commander, PBK II Wasli Saupin rushed to the location 50km away.

“We found that there was a fire involving a non-permanent house measuring 18’x28’ which was totally destroyed when we arrived,” he said.

According to Ridwan, also destroyed by the fire was a Honda CRV car.

“Firemen had a tough time reaching the location as the roads were narrow, slippery and not tarred.

“Fortunately there were no injuries or deaths involved.

“An inspection was carried out to ensure there was no other danger, and the operation ended at 1.15am,” he said.
