KUANTAN: Family members of a house in Kampung Kempadang here freaked out when a python weighing over 80 kilograms fell through the ceiling of a room in their home, today.

Retiree Mazlan Zakaria, 67, said he first heard a collapsing sound and found that part of the ceiling in his daughter's room had fallen.

However, a moment later, he heard a second collapsing sound and when he went to the room, he saw a python, estimated to be 10 meters long, on the bed with the fallen ceiling debris.

"Lately, there has been a noise on the roof. I thought it was rats or civet kittens running around at night. And today, my family and I were shocked by the presence of a very large snake from the ceiling.

"We immediately called 999 for help before the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) team came to remove the snake from the house," he said when met by Bernama.

Meanwhile, Mazlan's daughter, who wished to be known as Wani, 20, said the house had been "visited" by a reptile about two years ago.

"At that time, the snake was only in the yard and didn't manage to get inside before it was caught. But today, another one was on the ceiling of my room. Luckily, I was outside the room when it happened," she said.

Kuantan District APM Officer Major (PA) Zahidi Zainudin said they received a call about the incident at 11:53 am today before 10 members and two officers rushed to the location.

He said the operation to remove the python from the house took about 45 minutes due to the large size and length of the animal.

"The snake will be handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action," he said.
