Family of five killed as car crashes into water pipe in Serian

FIVE individuals, including a baby girl, died in a head-on accident after the vehicle they were travelling in is believed to have crashed into a water pipe on Jalan Baki Lama-Ensengei, Serian, this morning.

In the incident at about 8.30 am, the deceased included a man, three women and a baby girl.

A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said that they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.41 am before a team of personnel from the Serian Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was deployed to the location.

According to him, the personnel arrived at the location at 9.04 am and found a vehicle badly damaged after hitting a water pipe on the side of the road.

“Four adult victims were found trapped in the vehicle and were successfully removed by firefighters using special equipment.

"A baby girl was also found by members of the public near the scene of the incident and is believed to have been thrown out of the vehicle when the accident occurred," he said in a statement today.

He said all victims were confirmed dead by officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) at the scene.

He said the bodies of all victims were then handed over to the police for further action, and investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
