Family of three shaken by landslide in Kundasang

Kundasang: A family of three was left shaken after a landslide occurred near their home in Kampung Kinasaraban, Kundasang, on Thursday.

Ranau District Civil Defence Force officer Lt (PA) Sarifudin bin Sahibin said the affected slope was estimated to be about 30 feet high, 50 feet wide and 30 feet long.

The incident was assessed by four personnel from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) PUPA Kundasang on Friday following the landslide reported on Oct 1.

The APM personnel proceeded to the affected location equipped with full personal protective equipment (PPE) to assess the condition of the slope and ensure the safety of nearby residents.

Three adult male residents were identified as being affected by the incident.

Following the assessment, APM personnel advised the residents to stay away from the area near the landslide as a precaution against possible further soil movement or a secondary landslide.

Residents were also reminded to immediately contact the emergency authorities should any emergency situation arise.

As an early mitigation measure, APM personnel installed a tarpaulin over the affected area to help reduce erosion and control the flow of rainwater onto the exposed slope, particularly in the event of further rainfall.
