
I learned from my late mother, Hajah Aminah Mat Desa, who died 3 years ago at a ripe age of 94 years old, that “Family is significant because it provides essential emotional and social support, shaping individual values, identity and resilience. It acts as a primary source of love, a real sense of belonging & a stable foundation of children personal growth. Strong family bonds contribute to better physical & mental health and provide security during challenges.”
As a human resource development (HRD) practitioner, I totally agree with her that family is the first social unit where individuals learn critical skills like communication, teamwork, empathy and cooperation. It plays a crucial role in shaping individual's character, values, and beliefs through lessons, stories & shared experiences. Family traditions and shared time create lasting memories that strengthen bonds and influence the foundation for our future paths.
Being a grandfather, I found families play an essential role in promoting education. Parents often serve as their children's first teachers, instilling values such as curiosity & perseverance from an early age. Moreover, families encourage academic achievement by providing resources and support educational pursuits. My wife and I participated in our children's education by engaging in discussions about school activities to strengthen the parent-teacher bond.

I believed the family provides psychological and emotional security. So, spending more quality time with our family like celebrating birthdays and having vacations together will increase our appreciation for the bonds. The relationships between parents and children is the key ingredients for family harmony. To keep our family relationship running smoothly, it is important to create and sustain a positive environment that is always united & respects each other.
Evidently, I found family harmony gives a business and the workplace an advantage. A family culture will improve communication and cooperation. Trust between family members will increase. The business will also be stronger & profitable. Management can attract & retain talents in a family like company.
