Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old farmer was charged with raping his seven-year-old granddaughter.
The man pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan after the charge was read to him.
The man is accused of raping the girl at 2pm in November 2022 at a rubber plantation in Ranau.
He was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of between eight and 30 years, and whipping of at least 10 strokes, on conviction.
The court set Dec 15 for pre-trial case management and ordered the man to be remanded further pending the date.
Earlier, the prosecution objected to bail due to relationship between the alleged victim and accused.
The man did not say anything. Deputy Public Prosecutor Atiqa Nazihah Azrni appeared for the prosecution while the man was not represented.
