Tenom: Rubber tappers, smallholders and farmers in Sabah will receive a monthly incentive of RM400 under the Agro Madani initiative, following approval of the assistance application by the Federal Government.
State Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said the incentive was among five of the eight proposals submitted by his ministry to the Finance Ministry that have been approved.
He said the proposals went through a series of discussions with the Federal Government since June to ensure those involved in Sabah’s agriculture sector receive due benefits.
Jamawi said eligibility for the RM400 monthly incentive does not depend on whether applicants own a diesel or petrol vehicle.
Instead, applicants must obtain verification from the relevant agencies under the Sabah Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry confirming that they are genuinely involved in the sector.
He said this to reporters after attending the Lantern Procession and Mooncake Festival Celebration Night 2026 , here.
Among the other proposals approved was an increase in the diesel quota from 300 litres to 400 litres per month for each eligible recipient, he said.
The approval also allows the recipient’s name to be changed to that of a family member to facilitate use of the quota.
Jamawi added that owners with more than one diesel vehicle are also allowed to transfer the quota to friends or relatives so that the allocation is put to use and does not lapse.
He said the measures are expected to help ease the operating cost burden on rubber tappers, smallholders and farmers, especially those who depend on the agriculture sector for their income.
