Ten progressive farmers associated with the PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hoshiarpur were honoured at the “Sustainable Agriculture and Crop Residue Management Summit" organised at Punjab Agricultural University for their significant contribution towards sustainable farming and environmental conservation.

The summit focused on promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices and encouraging farmers to adopt effective crop residue management methods instead of burning stubble. The programme was jointly organised by Punjab Agricultural University, Clean Air Punjab, Sanjh and Aasra organisations.

Providing details about the event, Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur, said that the summit was presided over by Dr Satbir Singh Gosal. Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar and Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt also attended the programme and appreciated the efforts of farmers working towards sustainable agriculture.

The event aimed at recognising and motivating “Green Champions"—farmers who have successfully managed crop residue without resorting to stubble burning and who have adopted modern agricultural practices to protect the environment and improve soil health.

During the summit, farmers from different villages of Hoshiarpur district were specially honoured for their dedication to eco-friendly farming practices and scientific crop residue management techniques. Those honoured included Onkar Singh and Kulvir Singh from Thinda village, Kulwant Singh Gill and Jagdeep Singh from Paddi Sura Singh village, Ramandeep Singh from Saila Khurd village, Balwinder Singh and Bakhtawar Singh from Bham village, Jaspal Singh from Khanpur village and Harnek Singh and Bali Singh from Rasoolpur village.

The organisers highlighted that such initiatives play an important role in spreading awareness among farmers regarding sustainable agricultural methods and environmental protection. They also stressed the need for wider adoption of residue management technologies to curb pollution caused by stubble burning and ensure long-term soil fertility.

The honoured farmers shared their experiences and encouraged fellow farmers to adopt environmentally responsible farming techniques for the welfare of future generations and the protection of natural resources.
