The Fast & Furious family has certainly come a long way. With the 11th film in the making and the 10th one ending in a huge cliffhanger, we have to accept that no one in the family has really “died”.
Han, for instance, a character made famous by Sung Kang, came back to life in the 9th installment of the Fast franchise. It looks like Sung Kang will not only be busy playing Kang but also his work behind the camera. In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Kang revealed that he has been hired to direct a live adaptation of Initial D, another racing movie based on the famous Japanese street racing manga series.
Taiwanese singer, Jay Chou starred as Takumi Fujiwara in the 2005 adaptation of Initial D. At the time of writing, the details about the plot of the upcoming live-action Initial D are being kept under wraps, but we doubt it will have anything to do with the 2005 version.
Kang, who is a huge fan of cars himself admitted that it means a lot for him to direct another adaptation of Initial D.
“It’s about cars and drifting and cool things like that.”
He added, “Almost a Rocky or Karate Kid. A fun, big-budget movie that expresses my love affair for cars.”
Fans of Initial D, don’t get excited too soon because it’ll take a while for the movie to happen (at least it’s greenlit!). As of now, Sung Kang will be occupied with his directorial debut – Shaky Shivers, a horror comedy.
No release date has been set for Sung Kang’s Initial D. Let’s give the man the time he needs.
