In a surprising revelation during the trial at the High Court, a woman, Nurimah Juli, confessed to stabbing her ex-husband, Nurman Bakaratu, with scissors after a heated argument erupted between them in a Myvi car at a palm oil plantation on the night of January 13 last year. Providing her account of the incident, Nurimah, 35, shared that she and Nurman, driven by the deceased in a white Myvi car, had gone to a palm oil plantation situated approximately 25 minutes from a local hotel to discuss their marriage.
According to Nurimah, the disagreement began when she questioned Nurman about his intentions to marry her. The discussion took a contentious turn as they argued about her 'wali' (guardian) for remarriage. The confrontation escalated when they arrived at the palm oil plantation around 8 pm. Nurimah detailed how the argument intensified, with Nurman accusing her of deceit and wanting to "fool around."
As tensions peaked, Nurman attempted to turn the car around, and a physical altercation ensued. Feeling unable to control her emotions, Nurimah moved to the back seat, grabbed scissors from her bag, and stabbed him. This shocking revelation unfolded during the eighth day of the murder trial, which involved eight accused individuals, including former Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) Intelligence chief Datuk Mat Zaki Md Zain, six policemen, and a civilian.
The accused, facing charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same law, were allegedly involved in the murder of Nurman at an oil palm plantation near Jalan Anjur Juara, Jalan Apas Batu 5. Mat Zaki, in particular, is charged with conspiring to kill Nurman.
Nurimah's testimony shed light on the troubled post-divorce relationship between her and Nurman, revealing instances of his persistent pursuit after their divorce in 2021. Following her startling admission, Mat Zaki and the seven other accused were discharged and acquitted by the court. The prosecution dropped the case, aligning with Nurimah's testimony that she was responsible for Nurman's death. The trial has unravelled a complex narrative of a troubled relationship, culminating in a tragic turn of events.
