KUALA LUMPUR — Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng (DAP) has criticised the police over what he described as serious lapses in law enforcement following the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man at a petrol station in Bukit Tinggi, Klang.
The man was reportedly on a wanted list under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) and had multiple prior criminal convictions.
In a statement to Scoop, Lim said the case exposed “a very worrying reality” about how dangerous individuals could apparently move freely despite being sought by the authorities.
“It is deeply concerning that a man wanted under SOSMA, with a record of serious crimes, could live so openly in Klang. How many more individuals like him are walking freely across the country without detection?”
The incident occurred at around 11 pm on November 7, when a suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at the victim’s car at a petrol station.
The 34-year-old man was struck in the chest and abdomen and died at the scene. Three suspects, including a teenager and two men aged between 19 and 35, have been arrested and remanded to assist police investigations.
Authorities are also examining possible links to organised crime.
Lim insisted that the incident was not an isolated crime and warned that it highlighted serious weaknesses in law enforcement and intelligence.
“If a person on a wanted list can live like an ordinary citizen, it shows a failure in our policing and intelligence system. The public has a right to know why this was allowed to happen,” he said.
“Rakyat deserve to feel safe in their communities. They have the right to a full explanation, not vague statements. Anything less only fuels doubt and erodes trust in the police.”
Lim called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Home Ministry to urgently review how individuals under SOSMA are monitored and tracked, stressing that stronger enforcement measures were needed to prevent similar failures in the future.
“It is time for the authorities to ask hard questions and ensure accountability. The people cannot be left wondering how many dangerous criminals are still walking among us,” he added. - November 15, 2025
