KINABATANGAN: A 75-year-old man has been arrested over the fatal stabbing of his wife in a home in Kampung Perpaduan Datu Ugi this morning.

It is understood that the suspect, a Filipino national, had an argument with his 65-year-old wife before the incident.

District police chief D Ravi said the suspect will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

If convicted, the man faces the mandatory death sentence or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed.

Ravi said one of the couple’s children lodged a report on the matter.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the man entered the home with a knife before suddenly stabbing his wife in the neck,” he said when contacted.

The woman died at the scene. Police arrested the man at the scene of the crime and seized a 35cm knife.
