Fatal stabbing: Victim, suspect were students in Remove class, say cops

POLICE have launched a comprehensive investigation into the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old schoolgirl by a 14-year-old male classmate at a secondary school in Petaling Jaya earlier today.

District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat confirmed that a special task force has been formed involving officers from the Petaling Jaya police headquarters, forensics teams, and Selangor police headquarters to handle the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“We are currently in the process of recording statements from students to assist the investigation. If possible, we would like to resolve this matter as soon as possible,” he said.

Both the victim and the suspect were students in transition (Remove) classes — the suspect in Form Two and the victim in Form Four. Investigations are ongoing at the school, with several students from two classes believed to be involved in giving statements. Parents were observed waiting outside the school during the questioning process.

One mother said, “My child is still in school giving a statement and I’ve been waiting here for about ten minutes. I was informed in advance.”

A student who spoke to reporters stated that they had been instructed not to make any public statements.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased girl arrived at the Forensic Pathology Department of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) this afternoon, where a post-mortem examination was being carried out.

The victim’s body was transported to the facility earlier in the day, and family members were seen leaving the premises at around 4.15pm. Police maintained strict access control at the site.

According to police, two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack were recovered at the scene, which occurred at approximately 9.10am.

The shocking incident has reignited national debate over student safety. Chair of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Women, Children and Community Development, Yeo Bee Yin, announced that the committee will summon both the Education Ministry and the Royal Malaysia Police for a special hearing.

“We have decided to call the Education Ministry and the police to appear before the committee. Following that, we will present a statement on school safety to this honourable house,” Yeo said while debating the 2026 Budget Bill in Parliament.

She urged the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, to allocate time for a full debate on the matter.

Yeo, visibly emotional, described the stabbing as “madness” and said she was personally affected as a parent.

“This incident comes just one week after a gang rape case at a school in Melaka. I am heartbroken and outraged that such cases can happen in our schools. This is madness,” she said.

“Many parents out there, myself included, are asking: are our schools still safe for our children?”

Yeo stressed that while the parliamentary statement is important, urgent action must come from the executive.

“The most crucial thing now is for the Education Ministry to act swiftly to restore safety in our schools – for the sake of our children.”- October 14, 2025
