The district administration has finalised all arrangements for the counting of votes for the municipal council and nagar panchayat elections, scheduled for May 29. Elaborate security measures have been deployed across Fatehgarh Sahib to ensure a peaceful, transparent and fair process.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dr Sona Thind confirmed that voting for the Municipal Councils of Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib, Mandi Gobindgarh, and Bassi Pathana, alongside the Khamano Nagar Panchayat, concluded peacefully.
“Four secure counting centres have been established, with counting set to begin at 8 am. Counting for the Municipal Council Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib will be held at Mata Gujri School of Eminence, Fatehgarh Sahib; for Bassi Pathana at ITI Bassi Pathana; for Mandi Gobindgarh at Government Senior Secondary School (Girls), Amloh; and for Nagar Panchayat Khamano at School of Eminence, Khamano Kalan,” she said
“Strongrooms containing the ballot material will be opened in the presence of candidates, counting agents, Returning Officers and authorised officials to maintain complete transparency,” Dr Thind said. She added that counting staff had already undergone specialised training and rehearsals to ensure an error-free process.
SSP Shubham Aggarwal stated that the Police Department had implemented a multi-layered security apparatus around all centres. “Strict access control and continuous monitoring are in place to prevent any untoward incidents. No unauthorised person will be allowed inside,” Aggarwal said, noting that the police personnel would remain deployed until the process was complete.
Both Dr Thind and SSP Aggarwal appealed to candidates and their supporters to maintain peace and cooperate with officials during the declaration of results.
