KULIM: A father and his two young sons were killed in a two-vehicle collision on Jalan Kulim-Mahang yesterday evening.

Kulim deputy district police chief DSP Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng identified the victims as Muhammad Syazwan Mohd Surodjidin, 25, and his sons Muhammad Aqeel Afnan, 4, and Muhammad Affan Mikhael, 2.

Police were alerted to the crash involving a Perodua Viva and a Proton S70 at 5.15pm.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the crash occurred when a Proton S70, driven by a 27-year-old man, lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided with the car carrying the three victims,” Tengku Mohd Faisal said.

The three victims were confirmed dead at the scene.

Their bodies were sent to Kulim Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The Kedah Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 5.09 pm.

Kulim Hi-Tech Fire and Rescue Station chief Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent Azmir Hassan said five personnel were dispatched to the location.

“The driver of the Perodua Viva was found pinned to his seat, with two boys inside the car,” Azmir said.

Medical officers from the Ministry of Health pronounced all three victims dead at the scene.

The Proton S70 reportedly caught fire, but its driver escaped with minor injuries.

The driver was taken to Kulim Hospital for treatment.

“The two boys in the passenger seat of the Perodua Viva were removed with the help of members of the public,” Azmir added.

Fire personnel used special equipment to extricate the driver from the wreckage.
