Father’s heartbreaking call after discovering wife and daughter murdered at home goes viral

A DEEPLY distressing voice message, believed to be from a man informing his colleague that he would not be reporting to work after finding his wife and daughter murdered at their home, has gone viral on social media—prompting an outpouring of sympathy and shock across the nation.

The 20-second WhatsApp voice note, shared widely online, features the man—believed to be the husband and father of the victims—sobbing and clearly traumatised as he explains that he cannot attend work due to the devastating discovery.

“I’m sorry I can’t come in… I just found my wife and child… they’re both gone,” the man is heard saying through tears, in a recording that has since been shared thousands of times.

Social media users expressed heartbreak over the tragedy, with many identifying the wife—affectionately known as Kak Su—as a local kuih vendor admired for her kindness and work ethic.

“She was always cheerful and hardworking. Just last week she was selling festive treats and breads,” one netizen wrote.

Police confirmed the grim discovery was made by the man himself at around 7.30pm on Saturday at their rented home in Kampung Sekolah Juru, near Bukit Mertajam.

The body of the 51-year-old woman was reportedly found in the downstairs kitchen, while her 11-year-old daughter was discovered face down and bloodied upstairs.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said investigations are underway under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding possible suspects or the motive behind the killings, but police say efforts are ongoing.

The tragedy has cast a pall of grief over the close-knit village, with many residents still struggling to come to terms with the shocking events.

More updates are expected as police continue their probe into the deaths. - October 19, 2025
