A FATHER was sentenced to 33 years in prison and 32 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to six charges of raping his stepdaughter since the girl was in Form Two, at the Pasir Mas Sessions Court, today.
The 40-year-old welder was sentenced after admitting all the charges and facts of the case read out before Judge Zulkpli Abdullah, including the offence of injuring the victim.
Based on the facts of the case, the rape incident was revealed when the victim's mother, who is also the accused's wife, lodged a police report after the victim was beaten by the accused.
The victim then said that the reason she was beaten was that she told her friend that she had been raped by her stepfather.
The incident began when the victim was 14 years old to 18 years old, including when her mother was in the hospital giving birth.
According to the first charge, he is accused of raping the victim around June 2022, at midnight, while the second charge was on April 13, 2023, at 1 am at a house in Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat.
Both charges were brought under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of between eight and 30 years and a minimum of 10 strokes of the cane, if convicted.
For the third to sixth charges, the accused is accused of having sexual intercourse with the victim at the same location on May 2025 at 11 pm, January 9 at 11 pm, April 22 at 3 pm and April 23, 2026 at 11 pm.
All these charges were brought under Section 376B(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for a sentence of between 10 and 30 years and caning, if convicted.
At the same proceedings, the accused was also sentenced to two years in prison for intentionally causing injury to his stepdaughter at 11 pm, April 25, at the same location.
Prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na’ilah Harizan, while the accused was not represented.
At the proceedings, the accused requested the judge's discretion to reduce his sentence, but Siti Aiysha Na’ilah argued that the sentence should really teach the accused and the community a lesson so that they would not commit the same offence.
"A very serious offence involving the victim aged 14 years and four months, and continued until the victim reached the age of 18.
"The victim is the accused's stepdaughter who lives in the same house, causing the victim to be vulnerable and difficult to get help, in addition to being afraid to the point of not daring to disclose the incident, and was even beaten when the matter was found out by the accused," he said.
The judge then handed down the sentence and imposed an additional order by ordering the accused to undergo rehabilitation counselling while in prison and police supervision for two years after the end of the sentence. – May 6, 2026
