  • The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issues travel warnings for British nationals, citing reasons such as political conflicts, natural disasters, and safety concerns.
  • These warnings can advise against 'all travel' or 'all but essential travel' to entire countries or specific parts of countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America, some of these include: (travel not recommended at all to – Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Niger, Russia and Haiti. (Parts not recommended of – Algeria, Cameroon, Chad, Congo and India.
  • Currently, 76 out of 226 countries or territories have flagged no-go zones due to security issues, health risks, or legal differences with the UK.
  • Travelling against FCDO advice can invalidate travel insurance and may lead to a lack of consular support in the event of an emergency overseas.
  • The FCDO defines 'essential travel' as a personal decision, based on individual circumstances and the associated risks.
