Fears raised about condition of train track before Lewes derailment

  • Lewes MP James MacCleary says that concerns had been raised about the local train track a week before a Southern Railway train derailed.
  • Twenty people were injured, two seriously, in the incident between between Lewes and Haywards Heath in East Sussex on Thursday.
  • Emergency services declared a major incident after three carriages left the track.
  • Mr MacCleary said that there had been an earlier meeting with Greater Thameslink railway to discuss the bumpy track, which was “possibly a result of the incredibly hot weather”.
  • An investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the derailment on the London Victoria to Eastbourne service.
