Federal agents saved in dramatic helicopter rescue after boat capsized in rough seas off Puerto Rico

  • Three federal agents from the Customs and Border Protection Caribbean Air and Marine Branch were rescued by the US Coast Guard off the coast of Puerto Rico.
  • The incident occurred on 31 March when the agents responded to reports of a capsized vessel with two sailors clinging to it.
  • While attempting the rescue, their marine unit encountered 10ft swells, which threw the agents into the water.
  • Footage from the US Coast Guard Southeast shows all five individuals, including the two sailors, being hoisted into a helicopter.
  • The Puerto Rico Police Joint Force of Rapid Action (FURA) also assisted in the operation, and all involved were treated for minor injuries.
