KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Government will gradually ban the sale of electronic cigarettes or vape to curb misuse of the products, Berita Harian reported.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the move would start with a ban on open system devices before expanding to cover all types of vape nationwide.

He told the Dewan Negara that the Health Ministry had already held detailed discussions with key ministries and agencies, including the Finance Ministry, Royal Malaysian Customs, police, and the Domestic Trade Ministry.

The findings and proposals will be tabled to the Cabinet for policy approval, which will form the basis of a full ban on the sale of vape in Malaysia.

Dzulkefly also expressed support for six state governments — Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis, Kedah, and Pahang — that have stopped issuing or renewing local authority licences for vape sales, calling it a proactive step for public health.
