KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 - Aid from the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) to Selangor as host of the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026 is through the use of federal facilities, not funding, said minister Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
He said the decision was made during a Cabinet meeting with the 22nd Selangor SUKMA and Para SUKMA 2026 Implementing Committee entrusted with staging the biennial events.
The approach is in line with government efforts to save costs, he added.
“The decision was made at the Cabinet level that the federal (government) would not channel any aid or funds, so costs must be borne by the (host) state as the matter was already agreed upon.
“But we still provide aid in other aspects. For instance, Selangor may use federal-owned facilities and we will ease (the burden) in terms of facility use. There are several facilities provided for free, including certain locations and amenities,” he said when met here today.
According to him, other forms of aid discussed by the SUKMA Supreme Committee involved the cost of drug tests by the Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (ADAMAS).
“We may (lower costs) and ease the burden borne by the host… The federal (government) always provides contributions and assistance, just in different forms (that) would help with staging costs,” Taufiq said.
