Federal KPLB spends more than RM1b to improve rural roads

KENINGAU: The Federal Rural Development Ministry (KPLB) spent more than RM1 billion on the Rural Roads Programme (JALB) to provide a better rural-to-urban communication system.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, said the JALB was implemented in line with the Rural Development Policy (DPLB) to improve, expand and improve the network of road systems in rural areas.

"The Ministry aims to expand 100 per cent basic infrastructure coverage in villages in the peninsula and 80 per cent in villages in Sabah and Sarawak," he said after inspecting the Kampung Simbuan Sook Road Upgrading Project, here, Saturday.

"This year alone more than RM306 million has been allocated for the development of rural roads for the Sabah region and more than RM221 million for the Sarawak region."

Also present were Deputy Works Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup and Deputy Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad.
