Kota Kinabalu: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) is confident the FCAS International Dragon Boat Race will proceed smoothly and meet its targets.
Thanking various sectors for their unwavering support and cooperation, FCAS Deputy President cum race organising chairperson Datuk Susan Wong said:
“Adding significance to this year’s event is its coincidence with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
“This makes the dragon boat race one of the celebration activities, thereby adding more significance to the event,” Wong said during a meeting of the organising committee at the association’s conference room.

She highlighted the strong support and cooperation received from relevant State Government agencies, including the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, Sabah Maritime Department, Sabah Ports Authority, Civil Defence Force, Sabah Health Department, Sabah Police Volunteer Reserve Corps, Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Kota Kinabalu District Police, Kota Kinabalu Marine Police, as well as medical advisors, doctors and ambulances.
Meanwhile, Fung noted that the dragon boat race had attracted numerous teams from within Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak and Penang), Brunei and Singapore, showcasing the event’s growing popularity.
“Additionally, dozens of sponsors, including major sponsors and advertisers for the Special Issue of the event, have come on board, reflecting positive and encouraging progress,” he said.
To further enhance the festivities and promote the rich traditional Chinese culture, the organising committee introduced a “Beach Market” during the event.
This new feature aims to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China and promote food and cultural creations.
