FedEx breaks ground for Clark gateway expansion

OFFICIALS of global logistics firm Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) on Tuesday broke ground for its gateway facility expansion at Clark Freeport in Pampanga.

The project will modernize and enlarge the facility to more than 78,000 square meters, including the upgrading of handling and operational capabilities to enhance shipment flow reliability and service flexibility for customers.

Construction starts in the second quarter of the year, with Robinsons Land Corp. as developer.

Sustainability features have been incorporated to help improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. These include insulated building materials, energy-efficient glazing, a high-performance roofing system, LED lighting, electric vehicle charging stations, water-efficient fixtures, a rainwater collection system, and power-optimization equipment, with provisions for future solar power use.

“The expansion of our Clark gateway reflects our continued commitment to the Philippines and to building a smarter, more resilient network across the region,” FedEx North Pacific and South Pacific president Masamichi Ujiie said. “By enhancing our operational capabilities at Clark, we are better positioned to support Philippine businesses, enable efficient cross-border trade, and provide more reliable connectivity to global markets,” he added.

Attending the ceremony were government officials including Finance Secretary Frederick Go and Trade Secretary Cristina Roque.

“The expansion of FedEx will deepen global connectivity and strengthen local trade capabilities. Filipino firms and consumers can reach more markets while more foreign traders can reach ours. As the Asia-Pacific region grows, the Philippines will be better positioned to ride on this momentum and drive our economic growth,” Go said.

Also present were Bases Conversion and Development Authority president and CEO Joshua Bingcang, Clark Development Corp. president and CEO Agnes Devanadera, and Luzon International Premier Airport Development president and CEO Noel Manankil.

The FedEx Clark gateway opened in October 2021. Its expansion was signed with a land lease agreement in July 2024 with Luzon International Premiere Airport Development, the private consortium management of Clark International Airport.
