MARAN – The Felda Games and Felda Chairman’s Cup football tournament can be a platform to provide exposure and develop the talents of settlers across the country to go further in sports, said its chairman Tan Sri Idris Jusoh.
Idris said the two sports events, which involve 12 contingents and 1,500 participants, also aim to strengthen friendship and unity among Felda members.
“This sports carnival is not only attended by settlers, but also the next generation, as well as Felda staff, who all gather to compete with a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
“I can see this sports carnival is highly anticipated as a place to unearth new sports talents and meet other settlers from all over the country,” he said when officiating the events at Tun Razak Stadium here last night.
Also present were Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib and Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed Said.
Idris said he hoped the Felda Games, organised since 2005, could be held annually to bring excitement and boost the economy of local residents.
The three-day carnival involves 10 sports events, namely futsal, netball, volleyball, sepak takraw, badminton, petanque, e-sports, and golf.
Earlier, the Jengka Region football squad emerged as champions of the 2022 Felda Chairman’s Cup when they defeated Kuantan Region 1-0.
They took home a cash prize of RM10,000 and a trophy, while Kuantan Region, as runner-up, received a prize of RM8,000. – Bernama, August 26, 2022
