Feminist leader Gloria Steinem dies in New York

  • Feminist leader Gloria Steinem has died at the age of 92.
  • She “passed away peacefully at her home in New York City, surrounded by some of the many who loved her,” a post on her Instagram page said.
  • Steinem died on Wednesday, the statement added, but it did not give a cause of death; it said that she “continued working for equality until the very end.”
  • Steinem was a leader of second-wave feminism in the 1960s and 70s and is known for co-founding Ms. magazine, the National Women's Political Caucus and the Women's Action Alliance.
  • She later helped to establish Take Our Daughters to Work Day and the Women’s Media Center and was active on the international speaking and lecturing circuit in her later years.
