Continuing its tirade against cross-border drug smugglers operating in this district sharing a boundary with Pakistan, the Ferozepur police on Sunday demolished yet another plush house of a fugitive drug smuggler at Tindi Wala village along the zero line.
SSP Bhupinder Singh said the police had received a complaint that the accused drug peddler, Gurpreet Singh alias Gora, had encroached 15 marla land owned by the provincial government and constructed an illegal house on it at Tindi Wala village.
The SSP said that after following due procedure, the police, along with the officials concerned from the district administration, demolished the illegally constructed house.
The SSP said Gora had been booked under the NDPS Act at Sadar police station following the recovery of 7 kg of heroin.
“Gora was in touch with Pakistani smugglers and used to receive consignments with the help of drones,” said the SSP, adding that a hunt has been launched to nab him, and soon he will be arrested by the police.
Earlier, on January 5, another such property belonging to drug smuggler Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukha at Kilche village was razed by the police.
On October 29 last year, the property of another smuggler, Buta Singh, which he had constructed on government land, was demolished.
Overall, nine such properties worth over ten crores, reportedly constructed by drug smugglers on encroached government land, have been demolished by the police in the last year.
