Felipe Massa’s rare Ferrari LaFerrari has been put up for auction, with the car expected to fetch as much as €5 million more than a decade after the former Formula 1 driver first took delivery from Maranello.

The car, which features several custom touches linked to Massa’s Ferrari career, is being listed by RM Sotheby’s and is already attracting major interest from collectors around the world.

With fewer than 4,000 kilometres on the clock and signatures from both Massa and former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo, this particular LaFerrari stands out as one of the most distinctive examples ever offered publicly.

Felipe Massa’s LaFerrari remains closely tied to Ferrari history

Despite being less than 15 years old, the LaFerrari has already secured legendary status within automotive history.

According to Auto, Motor, und Sport, alongside the Porsche 918 and McLaren P1, it formed part of the so-called “holy trinity” that introduced a new era of hybrid performance hypercars.

Ferrari produced only 499 examples of the LaFerrari, with buyers personally selected by the manufacturer rather than purchasing through normal dealerships. That exclusivity immediately turned the V12 hybrid into one of Ferrari’s most desirable modern collector cars.

Massa received his LaFerrari shortly after leaving Ferrari at the end of the 2013 Formula 1 season. The Brazilian joined the Scuderia in 2006, initially alongside Michael Schumacher, before spending nearly a decade racing for the team.

During his Ferrari career, Massa claimed 11 Formula 1 victories and helped Ferrari secure the 2008 Constructors’ Championship. He also came within one point of defeating Lewis Hamilton during one of the closest title battles in Formula 1 history.

The car itself was configured in a black and red specification chosen personally by Massa, including Nero paintwork, black Alcantara interior trim, Rosso Corsa accents, and optional FXX-K wheels.

Special signatures and low mileage increase collector interest

One of the most personal features appears between the seats, where the limited production plaque includes the message “Grazie Felipe” alongside the signature of former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo.

Massa also signed the dashboard of the hypercar, further strengthening the Formula 1 connection attached to the vehicle.

The LaFerrari was originally delivered to Massa in Monaco during 2014 and remained in his ownership until 2021 before eventually being exported to Denmark by its current owner.

Most of the car’s mileage was accumulated while Massa owned it, with the odometer still showing fewer than 4,000 kilometres.

According to the RM Sotheby’s auction listing, the Ferrari is expected to sell for between €4.5 million and €5 million when bidding closes on May 21.
