Fi Life, one of Malaysia’s pioneering online life insurance brands, is stepping back from the insurance business. In a note from CEO Malek Ali, the company said it will stop selling new policies from 26 August 2026 as it shifts its focus to new services.
For a bit of background, Fi Life launched in 2018 as one of Malaysia’s earliest insurtech players, built around the idea of letting customers buy life and medical coverage online without going through an agent. Founded by Malek Ali, the company positioned itself around lower-cost premiums by removing agent commissions, and at one point claimed to offer the cheapest life insurance for women in the country.
Now, after nearly eight years in the market, CEO Malek Ali said the company had made the difficult decision to step back from insurance distribution and focus instead on new services for its customers. The note did not spell out exactly what those services will be, but from 26 August, customers will no longer be able to take out a new policy through Fi Life.
If you already hold a policy with Fi Life, your existing coverage will continue as usual and you can still renew it with the insurer that underwrites your policy. Life insurance policies are underwritten by Tokio Marine Life Insurance Malaysia, while medical insurance is underwritten by Generali Insurance Malaysia.
Going forward, policyholders can contact Tokio Marine Life at 03 2603 3999 or Generali at 1300 13 2121 directly for claims, renewals or other assistance.
