Owning a car is undoubtedly one of the dreams many look to fulfill during their lifetime. However, careful financial planning is required as failing to do so can saddle one with a lifetime of debt.

A woman recently took to social media to ask for advice on what she should do after her fiancé had a request that, if not considered carefully, could result in financial hardship.

Asked to apply loan so he could own RM400K car

In an anonymous post to the Facebook group Muflis Bankrupt di Malaysia, the woman wrote that she had been working as a nurse in Singapore for the past one year.

She then went on to say that her fiancé had asked her to buy a Honda FL5 Type R car for him.

According to Honda Malaysia’s official website, the car’s on-the-road pricing is RM399,900, which isn’t inclusive of insurance.

“He said the loan can’t be approved under his name because his salary is too low, so he asked to take the loan under my name. He also claimed to be able to handle the monthly payments as he runs a motorcycle towing business.

“Question is, what should I do? Should I proceed with his request? I’m really at a loss,” the woman wrote.

‘Don’t do it!’

Netizens were alarmed by the woman’s dilemma and gave words of advice on how she should handle the matter.

‘Please don’t. If issues regarding the loan repayment or car arise, you will have to bear it as the loan’s under your name.’

‘Tell your fiancé to earn his own money. You worked so hard to earn your own and you may face trouble buying (a car) if you have a bad credit record. Your fiancé clearly knows he’s not financially capable but yet still wants a Honda car.’

‘DON’T! Please. A good man will not ask a woman to fulfill his dreams in this manner.’
