Fiat looks set to introduce a new model into the popular C-SUV segment as it reveals a first look at its Grizzy model.

Available in both SUV and Fastback bodystyles, the new Grizzly will look to rival cars like the Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai in a hugely competitive area of the market.

"Naturally suited to family life," according to Fiat, the Grizzly will be available with a full range of powertrains, with the Italian manufacturer stating that the new model will come equipped with options "from petrol to BEV (battery electric vehicle)". At under 4.5 metres long, the Grizzly is slightly longer than Fiat’s current Grande Panda.

While just a single image has been released for now, it does show the Grizzly’s upright stance on the road and chunky proportions with boxy wheel arches. The Fastback model, meanwhile, has a sharper bootline and a more heavily raked roofline, contrasting the SUV’s more conventional design. Up front, there’s an intricate front grille design which incorporates Fiat’s brand lettering in the middle.

Olivier Francois, Fiat chief executive, said: “Grande Panda marked the return of Fiat to affordable family movers. With Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback, we’re completing this lineup with two vehicles designed around different needs, different lifestyles, but sharing the same idea: smart, accessible and rooted in Fiat’s design DNA.

"Together, they bring Fiat back at the heart of the family mobility market with a complete and coherent line-up."

Fiat has already confirmed that the Grizzly will be introduced to ‘Europe and in the Middle East & Africa’ in the second half of this year.
