Fiddler’s Ferry: Crews tackle blaze at former power station in Cheshire

Emergency crews are tackling a fire at a decommissioned power station in Cheshire.

People living close to the Fiddler’s Ferry site in Warrington have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut after a blaze broke out in an industrial unit at about 1pm on Thursday.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire appeared to be contained within a chimney area.

Roads were closed while firefighters worked to control the flames, deploying an aerial ladder platform to get water to the area.

The coal-fired power station shut in 2020 after nearly 50 years of operation.

Peel NRE purchased the site in 2022, and work is under way on a development comprising 860 homes and 101 hectares of employment land.
