The Digital Ministry has initiated strategic collaborations with various ministries to boost the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across all sectors.
Through the National AI Office (NAIO), 55 use cases have been identified and are being implemented. These include working with the Transport Ministry to develop a traffic prediction system using big data analytics, and partnering with the Health Ministry to introduce AI in radiology and the management of public hospital resources.
Replying to an oral question by Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN–Kubang Pasu) in the Dewan Rakyat this morning, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo outlined other collaborations between NAIO and ministries.
They include working with the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry to develop a smart agriculture platform for supply and demand forecasting, and a system to identify pest infestations; and partnering with the Human Resources Ministry and TalentCorp to close the skills gap and ensure the national workforce is ready for the AI era.
“As for the public sector, initiatives such as the AI@Work programme allow the use of generative AI in daily tasks to improve efficiency in public services,” Gobind said.
Ku Abd Rahman also asked about NAIO’s development and contributions to date. Launched in December 2024, the office has achieved several milestones in the first half of 2025.
“In terms of investment, under the Malaysia Digital (MD) strategic initiative, the AI sector successfully attracted approved investments of RM3.29 billion from January to June 2025, with the potential to create 6,920 job opportunities,” Gobind said.
“To build a sustainable AI ecosystem, NAIO is drafting the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030, centred on talent, data and infrastructure. The draft AI Data Readiness Handbook is also being finalised to support the implementation of the Action Plan.”
He added that as part of efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s role in the regional AI landscape, NAIO, in collaboration with MyDigital, will coordinate the Asean AI Summit 2025, which begins tomorrow.
“This summit will be a crucial platform to boost regional leadership and cooperation in AI. An AI Impact Study on the public sector, involving 28 ministries, is also being conducted and is in its final phase,” he said.
