Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old Filipina pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Tuesday to attempting to cheat a local man over the sale of a fake gold ring.
Binah Warajid made the plea before Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan after the charge was read to her.
She is accused of attempting to cheat the 40-year-old man by falsely claiming the gold ring she offered to sell him was genuine at a jewellery shop in 1 Borneo Hypermall at about 2pm on Aug 4.
The charge under Section 420/511 of the Penal Code provides for a jail sentence, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.
Amir Shah fixed Sept 3 for case management and ordered the unrepresented accused to be remanded after prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that she only holds a Chief Minister's Department letter as identification.
