MANILA, Philippines — Police rescued a Filipino businessman who was kidnapped early this week and arrested three of his alleged abductors.
The victim was rescued at a posh subdivision in Quezon City. The suspects were identified as Tristan Primavera Menor, Alvin Grijaldo Bandong and Mark Dione Alyes. A manhunt is also on for the other members of the syndicate, including the mastermind, the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) said on Wednesday.
PBGen Glicerio Cansilao, AKG director, said the family reported the kidnapping incident when the victim failed to return home on Feb. 12., 2026.
The case was referred to the AKG which immediately planned a rescue operation.
Cansilao said the victim was walking on a street in Mandaluyong City when the suspects on board motorcycles stopped and forcibly took him.
Shortly after, the family received a message from the abductors demanding P50 million in exchange for the businessman's release. The family sent an initial P250,000 via online money transfer platforms, particularly GCash and Paymaya to the kidnappers.
After further negotiations, the kidnappers agreed to lower the ransom to P4 million which the family paid off, Cansilao said.
“During the payoff, our operatives had the chance to point out the exact location of the victim. Upon rescue, the three suspects were arrested. Also, the P4 million cash ransom money was recovered in full inside the vehicle used by the suspects,” Cansilao told reporters in a mix of Filipino and English.
