MANILA, Philippines — The Eastern Police District (EPD) recognized the contributions of private sector partners, particularly members of the Filipino-Indian community, for supporting the Philippine National Police's (PNP) community programs through corporate social responsibility initiatives during the 31st Police Community Relations (PCR) Month celebration.
EPD Director Brig. Gen. Melecio Buslig said the PNP relies on the support of stakeholders in carrying out its various programs, citing the Filipino-Indian community as one of its long-standing partners in helping disadvantaged sectors.
"The PNP could not accomplish all these on its own without the active support of our stakeholders. Among them are our community partners, particularly our Filipino-Indian partners, who quietly yet wholeheartedly help the poorest sectors of society through their social responsibility programs," Buslig said.
As part of the celebration, the EPD honored several stakeholders, including Filipino-Indian Commerce and Welfare Society Inc. (FICWSI) President Tristan James Kumar, for his contributions to community service and continued support for the police.
Buslig said the annual PCR Month celebration serves as the PNP's culminating activity to strengthen cooperation among the police, the government and the communities they serve.
"It emphasizes the strong partnership among the three vital pillars of society—the community, the police, and the government—to achieve lasting peace and security in our areas of responsibility," he said.
He added that close collaboration among these sectors fosters peace and order while giving residents and businesses greater confidence to live, work and invest in their communities.
The EPD is responsible for maintaining peace and order and ensuring public safety in the cities of Mandaluyong, San Juan, Marikina and Pasig.
Kumar was cited for leading medical missions, disaster relief operations, health programs and livelihood initiatives benefiting underserved communities.
Calling the Philippines his home, Kumar pledged the Filipino-Indian community's continued support for the PNP.
"On behalf of the Filipino-Indian community, I assure you that we will continue to support the PNP in building a peaceful and safer Philippines," he said.
He also urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts to build "a stronger, safer, and more united Philippines."
