Filipino jailed for keeping stolen battery

Kota Kinabalu: A 42-year-old Filipino was jailed three months by the Magistrate’s Court here for keeping a stolen battery.  Tarisil Abd Han pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence at 2pm on July 17 at Lorong Sinsuran 1, here.

He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both, on conviction.

According to the facts of the case, a police report was lodged after various work equipment, including a battery, went missing from the back of a Toyota Hilux at the area.

Police later detained Tarisil at Lorong Sinsuran 1 and found the battery, bearing its owner’s label, in his possession.

Investigation found that he failed to provide a lawful explanation for possessing the battery and admitted keeping it for his own use.

The battery was later identified by its owner.

Tarisil was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Malaysia Immigration Department for further action upon completing his jail term.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Arfa Anchal Khan Muhammad Munir Khan appeared for the prosecution.
