Filipino motorcyclist dies in Lahad Datu accident

LAHAD DATU: A 31-year-old Filipino was killed when his motorcycle skidded into a ravine at KM35 along Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan, here, Monday.

District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail, said the incident occurred at about 3pm when the victim was heading towards Lahad Datu from Sandakan.

He said the victim lost control of the motorcycle and skidded into the ravine by the road.

The incident was witnessed by the victim’s brother who was on the other vehicle in front of the victim.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the Lahad Datu Hospital for further action. Blood samples were drawn from the victim for drug and alcohol tests.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement, Tuesday.

Dzulbaharin also urged those who witnessed the incident to contact the Traffic Investigation Officer, Insp Humaidi Harun at 089-881255 or go to the nearest police station.

In the meantime, Dzulbaharin reminds the road users to always be cautious to avoid any untoward incident.
