THE Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has called on Filipinos living in Malaysia to register as overseas voters, emphasizing the importance of electoral participation in shaping the country’s future.
In an advisory, the embassy reminded Filipinos that the right to vote is a cornerstone of democracy and encouraged those who are not yet registered to complete the process while registration remains open.
Registration period
Overseas voter registration is ongoing from Dec. 1, 2025, until Sept. 30, 2027, in preparation for the 2028 Philippine national elections.
Filipino citizens who will be at least 18 years old on or before May 8, 2028, and who are not yet registered voters may apply for overseas voter registration.
Applicants are required to present a valid Philippine passport and may visit the embassy from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-in applicants are accepted during these hours.
The embassy emphasized that leaders elected through the democratic process make key decisions affecting education, employment, public safety, health care, and other critical issues that directly impact Filipino communities both at home and abroad.
By registering and casting their votes, overseas Filipinos can help choose leaders whose policies and priorities align with their values and concerns.
Malaysia hosts a significant Filipino community, composed of professionals, skilled workers, and long-term residents. Overseas voting allows qualified Filipinos abroad to participate in national elections without returning to the Philippines.
The embassy urged eligible voters not to delay their registration, noting that early registration ensures inclusion in the official voters’ list for the 2028 polls.
For more information, applicants may contact the embassy directly or visit its official channels for updates on overseas voter registration procedures.
