Petrol is one of the more predictable monthly expenses for most drivers. The CIMB PETRONAS Visa Debit Card offers 10% cashback across three spending categories, with a total annual cap of up to RM530.
The Three Spending Categories
The 10% cashback applies to petrol and Mesra Café purchases at PETRONAS stations, selected EV charging stations, and SETEL app top-ups, with a combined annual cap of RM360. Car wash services paid in-store using the debit card earn a further 10% cashback, capped at RM120 a year. Car insurance renewals with Berjaya Sompo or Takaful IKHLAS round out the three categories, earning a flat RM50 cashback per renewal.
To qualify for the cashback, you need to maintain a minimum monthly average balance of RM1,000 in your linked CIMB account.
Before You Pay At The Pump
When paying with the card at a PETRONAS station, a RM200 minimum balance is required at the point of transaction. This amount is held temporarily and released immediately once the transaction is settled, so it does not affect your actual spending balance for long.
Linking To Setel Increases Your Cashback Potential
The CIMB PETRONAS card range also includes the Visa Platinum-i Credit Card and the Visa Infinite-i Credit Card, both of which can be linked to Setel for additional benefits. Across all three cards, linking to Setel gives cardholders access to up to 3x Mesra Points on PETRONAS transactions. Total annual cashback potential across the full card range goes up to RM1,970, with the Visa Infinite-i Credit Card capped at RM1,440 per year and the Visa Platinum-i Credit Card at RM530 per year.
How To Apply
The CIMB PETRONAS Visa Debit Card is available to customers who open a CIMB Current or Savings Account/-i, or a CIMB DURIAN-i Account at any CIMB branch. The card is issued at the branch.
For drivers who regularly fill up at PETRONAS, the debit card is a straightforward way to get something back on spending that happens regardless. The 10% rate is applied at the point of spending, and with the annual cap spread across petrol, car wash, and insurance, most regular drivers would reach it without adjusting their habits.
With the RON95 subsidy bill rising sharply in recent months, every ringgit saved at the pump counts.
